Lauren’s Story
Founder and Visionary of Yass Hot Yoga
Lauren had tried a few yoga classes here and there at a couple of gyms, but she preferred more ‘hard core’ exercise chasing’ ‘faster’ results. However, being desk bound at her office job, she developed lower back pain and sciatica. She went from being reasonably fit to being constantly in pain, struggling to walk. In a search to feel better, she tried various alternative solutions. It was the hot yoga practice she found that relieved her pain.
Lauren bought an Introductory Bikram Yoga Pass, inspired by the yoga school’s website that it was yoga for back and knee pain. Her first session was more challenging than she expected a yoga sesion to be, however she was pleasantly surprised to find that by the end of the Introductory Pass, her lower back pain was all but gone. She did keep coming back however, because she realised how stiff her neck was, and how much more calm and focused the yoga helped her to be.
After that, whenever something happened in Lauren’s life, like an injury or an emotional challenge, she’d find herself back at hot yoga. The ongoing ache in her hand from an old break that got infected after surgery, regular yoga eased that. Tension migraines that plagued her since she was a young teenager, very rarely happen now. Sweating helped clear up eczema. Previous blood sugar and low blood pressure issues seemed to clear up.
Lauren got so curious about the yoga that she did a 9 week intensive 500-hour teacher training program in LA. Doing so much yoga during the training, she’d never felt better in her life. Lauren’s since taught over 1,200 yoga sessions to thousands of students.
Lauren put the yoga to the test when she twisted her knee back to front skiing, rupturing her ACL, MCL and tearing her PCL. She was in a knee brace on crutches for 3 months then had an ACL re-construction surgery. She had a great surgeon & physiotherapist, but it was hot yoga helped her get her knee back to full range of motion and strength.
Lauren met her now fiancé on a chairlift at Perisher. She said if he wanted her to move to his farm; he’d have to build her a yoga studio & Yass Hot Yoga was born.
Lauren & Nick now have a little boy. Lauren did yoga throughout her pregnancy and post-partum recovery.
Lauren packed her bags at 8-months postpartum with her baby to travel to Nashville, Tenessee to be the first Australian to learn to teach Yoga Shapeshifting. She felt it was the missing link for both her and her students to take their yoga to the next level. And Yoga ShapeShifting indeed was the style of the yoga that would complete our yoga school’s trifecta of healing yoga: Bikram, Yin and Yoga Shapeshifting. These three styles combined really are magical and something else.
Yoga is meant to help make you fall in love with your life and help you realise that so much can be possible for you. Physically. Emotionally. Mentally.

Yass Hot Yoga is a grassroots movement for helping our students to feel more durable, more supple, more alive and more at home in their bodies - and in love with their lives. Not just for a session or a season, but for the decades ahead.

We know this is a bit counter-culture, which is why we are so passionate to share it. Working adults thing it’s normal for their bodies to stiffen and start falling apart from their 30s onwards. Seniors are sold pills, surgeries and solutions that don’t help them stay independent and address root causes of issues. Many children aren’t developing critical parts of their brains because they aren’t getting the right movement.
So many of these things can be addressed with the right nutritious movement. Traditional approaces to health and wellness aren’t keeping up with this movement crisis.
We want to show you there is a different way to live through our yoga school. We gather together in our beautiful yoga room on a farm. And we lift each other up on the path toward a long, healthy, independent life full of hope, love and community.
